- As part of The Sunyani Stakeholders Association for Development visits to institutions in Sunyani, the body today visited the Sunyani Municipal Assembly where we had an interaction with the Municipal Chief Executive, Honourable Ansu Kumi. Others present were the deputy Municipal coordinator and Mr Oppong who is the head of town planning at the Assembly.
Members of the stakeholders association who were present were introduced to the MCE by Nana Takyiwaa, who is the Akwamuhemaa of the Baakoniaba area of Sunyani.
Mr Michael Yeboah who is well known in public circles as McKenzie, managing director of McKenzie Sports wear was the leader of the delegation. He was also the mouthpiece of the association during the meeting which lasted for more than one and half hours. He started by commending the MCE for the ongoing decongestion exercise at the Sunyani Market.
Among the items discussed was the vision of the Sunyani Stakeholders for Development. It was mentioned that, the body is not in existence to make the work of any institution difficult but rather seek to colloborate with all institutions in Sunyani for the growth and development of the town. It was made known that the association draws its powers from the Sunyani Traditional Council.
The association sought from the MCE the avenue to use to stop Sunyani lands being sold by the divestiture body. We were briefed that it’s not in the hands of the Municipal Assembly but rather the head of the body in Accra. The association assured the MCE that it will take the necessary steps to put a stop to such sale of land.
Another important item that was discussed is the need to have well defined parking spaces in the Sunyani township which will generate income for the Assembly and at the same time ease the flow of traffic in the municipality. On that, the MCE assured the association that plans are already in the pipeline and very soon the Assembly will start markings on the Streets for that purpose.
